Biography
He graduated from St. Petersburg 3rd gymnasium. In 1832 he entered St. Petersburg University in the second branch of the Faculty of Philosophy in the category of natural sciences. In 1842, after graduating from a university with a Ph.D. in philosophy, he was sent abroad to study agriculture and prepare for teaching; listened to the annual course at the Hohenheim Agricultural Institute , got acquainted with the outstanding agronomically estates of Germany and neighboring countries.
In 1844, he was seconded to the Kazan educational district as a public lecturer on agricultural issues. On business trips to the Volga and Prikamsky provinces of the Kazan district (1844) and to the Chernihiv and Poltava provinces (1845) he studied agricultural production and cultural methods of processing. In the academic year 1845–46, he taught a public agricultural course in Penza . In the autumn of 1846 he was transferred to the Kiev school district , began to teach at the University of St. Vladimir administrative part of agriculture. Since 1849 - corrective post of associate in the Department of Agriculture and Forestry of the University; made a trip with a scientific purpose to various estates of the Kiev , Chernihiv and Poltava provinces.
In 1850 he defended his thesis "On Labor in Agriculture", was awarded the master's degree in agriculture and forestry, and was elected extraordinary professor in the department of these subjects. In the lectures, which were successful among the students, he was guided by the works of Pabst, Schweitzer, Koppe and other West European authorities in the field of agriculture, revived their conclusions and illustrated with their own material.
