The early work of Bob Marley was associated with the names of Peter Tosh and Bunny Weiler , later - the most famous names in the collective of The Wailers . The name Marley first gained fame outside of Jamaica in 1972 when Johnny Nash recorded a cover version of Stir It Up, a hit in the UK. Subsequent albums by The Wailers sold very well; This was facilitated by the cover version of "I Shot the Sheriff", recorded by Eric Clapton .

In 1974, Tosh and Weiler left the band. Marley called Bob Marley & The Wailers , which also included the vocal trio I Threes .
