The park was founded in 1934 , and in 2005 an artificial island 2 km long was built, separated from the original beach by a lagoon through which three bridges were thrown. The beach is divided into two parts. In the northern part there is a natural sandy beach with small dunes . A wide promenade was laid in the southern part and playgrounds for ball games and picnics were built. At the south end of the beach there is a small marina and parking. The lagoon has shallow water areas for children, as well as a kilometer long swimming path.
Campfires are allowed on the beach; kayaking and diving can be enjoyed in the coastal area. There are also playgrounds for sports and outdoor concerts. From the shore, the Middelgrunden wind farm ( dat. Middelgrunden ), located in the open sea, is clearly visible. The beach can be reached from the Amager Strann and Femeren metro stations of the M2 line of the Copenhagen Metro .
