The Beledweyn act of terrorism took place on June 18, 2009 , the target of the attack was the Medina Hotel, which contained senior Somali officials. At the scene of the explosion, 30 people died, another 5 died from injuries in the hospital.

Attack
The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber, a car stuffed with explosives was blown up near one of Beledwayne's hotels. As a result of the terrorist attack, 35 people were killed and dozens were injured. Among the dead were several senior Somali officials, including Omar Hashi Aden ( Somalia's Minister of Security). Responsibility for the attack was claimed by the extremist group Jamaat Al-Shabaab , the main target of their attack was Somali officials who arrived in Beledweyn from Mogadishu and stayed at the Medina Hotel.
