Biography

Born into a peasant family. Before conscription in the Red Army in 1939 he graduated from 8 classes of a secondary school in Studenki, in 1940 the first year of the Ryazan College of Music.

In October 1940, drafted into the Red Army . From October 1940 to April 1942, he was a radio telegrapher of the airfield service battalion in the Air Force of the Central Asian Military District , and served in the city of Stalinabad . Then sent to study. In 1944 he graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School (acted in evacuation in the city of Frunze of the Kyrgyz SSR . Member of the Great Patriotic War: from January 1945, junior lieutenant F. A. Shabanov served as a pilot in the 730th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 125th Fighter Aviation Division of Air Defense He had a Western air defense front : he was on combat duty and patrolling over the Baltic ports, had no meetings with the enemy in the air and air battles.

After the war he continued to serve in the Air Force. In December 1948 he was transferred to the 32nd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 15th Guards Fighter Aviation Division of the 64th Air Defense Fighter Army . In February 1950, the regiment was transferred to the 324th fighter aviation division of the Moscow Air Defense District .

Member of the Korean War of 1950-1953 . In November 1950, he was transferred to the 196th Fighter Aviation Regiment , and in December, as a part of the regiment, he left for Northern China . For about three months, the regiment was preparing for military operations and training Chinese fighter pilots, and in April 1951 entered the battle. The first combat flight, F. A. Shabanov, performed on April 4, and in this flight he won the first victory - he shot down an F-86 Saber fighter .

In less than two months of fighting, it completed 69 sorties, conducted 29 air battles on the MiG-15 fighter, personally shot down 6 US aircraft (1 strategic Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber , the rest - F-86 Saber fighters). May 20, 1951 F. Shabanov won his sixth victory, knocking down the American F-86 . Then for several months there was a lull at the front.

On October 10, 1951, Senior Lieutenant F. A. Shebanov for the successful completion of command assignments and the courage shown at the same time was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (he did not manage to receive the award).

In an aerial battle, Shebanov often abandoned his leader and broke away from the group; according to Eugene Pepelyaev , this is precisely what ultimately led to his death [2] . Once again breaking away from the group, attacked by three U.S. Air Force F-84 fighter bombers, Shebanov died in an air battle on October 26, 1951, 7 kilometers from the Ryukyu settlement (35 kilometers southwest of Pyongyang ).

He was buried at the Russian military cemetery in China in the city of Lushunkou (formerly Port Arthur ).
