Biography
Ivan Bondarev was born in February 1917 in the village of Aleksandrovka (now Bovadzor in the Stepanavan region of Armenia ) into a peasant family. Received primary education, worked on the collective farm . In 1940 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since the beginning of World War II on its fronts. By January 1945, the senior sergeant Ivan Bondarev of the Guards was a tank driver of the 49th Guards Tank Brigade of the 12th Guards Tank Corps of the 2nd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the Vistula-Oder operation [1] .
From January 15 to January 25, 1945, the crew of the tank, which included Bondarev, destroyed 2 anti-tank artillery batteries, 3 mortars , 6 machine guns , 4 cars [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 27, 1945, the guard sergeant Ivan Bondarev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
He died in battle on March 4, 1945. He was buried in the city of Gryfice, Szczecin Voivodeship of Poland at the Soviet military cemetery [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a medal. A school in his native village is named after Bondarev [1] .
