Biography

Sergei Bolshakov was born on December 3, 1918 in the village of Dolmatovo (now the Kichmengo-Gorodetsky district of the Vologda region ) into a peasant family. He worked as an accountant, in 1934 he graduated from a cooperative college in Veliky Ustyug . In 1939 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. In 1943 he joined the CPSU (b) . By February 1945, Senior Lieutenant Sergey Bolshakov commanded the battery of the 426th anti-tank artillery regiment of the 6th 38th Army anti-tank artillery brigade of the 4th Ukrainian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .

In early February 1945, Bolshakov’s battery boosted the Vistula and took up positions on the western edge of the Polish city of Strumen . On February 11-14 , the battery successfully repelled the counterattacks of the German troops, destroying 5 enemy tanks . When a detachment of German submachine gunners broke through to positions, Bolshakov raised his men to attack and repelled the attack [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 23, 1945, for “courage and heroism shown in crossing the Vistula and holding the bridgehead on its western shore,” Senior Lieutenant Sergei Bolshakov was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal for number 7680 [1] .

After the war, with the rank of captain, Bolshakov was sacked. He lived in Vladimir-Volynsky , was the head of the regional trade department. Later he moved to Nikolaev . He died on June 4, 1960, was buried in the city necropolis of Nikolaev [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , Alexander Nevsky , World War 2 degree, Red Star , as well as a number of medals. In Nikolaev and the Kichmengsky Gorodok , busts of Bolshakov were installed [1] .
