The imago is 4–5.5 mm long [2] . Elytra usually black, with red tops, less often monochromatic - black or red-brown. Beetles are characterized by the following features [2] [3] :
- the superior large spur of the hind tibia is much shorter than the first segment of the tarsus; front tibia along the outer edge in front of the third teeth notched;
- protrusions of the cheeks protrude laterally beyond the clypeus line;
- visor in dense punctures.
