Biography
Born in Mesini . After graduation he worked at the Bank of Greece . In 1955, he was one of the founders of OTOE - the Federation of Workers of Banking Institutions of Greece, which he headed until 1963 . [1] In the same year, he was first elected a member of the Greek parliament from the first district of Athens in the 1964 election .
In the era of the regime of colonels was in exile on the island of Syros [2] . After the liberation of Alevras, the founder of the National Radical Union, Andreas Papandreou, invited him to head the leadership of this organization in Greece. Later, however, Alevrosa was again arrested and deported to Ai Stratis, and then to Agios Nikolaos. Finally he was released in 1972 .
After the restoration of democracy, was a founding member of the PASOK party , from which he was elected a member of parliament in the elections of 1974 , 1977 and 1981 . On December 12, 1977, he was appointed representative of the parliamentary thrall PASOK In 1981, he was elected Chairman of the Greek Parliament and re-elected in 1985 and 1989 . March 10, 1985 became the provisional president of the republic, after the resignation of Konstantinos Karamanlis . February 22, 1990 PASOK was proposed by the presidential candidate of the republic, but scored 125 votes against 153 votes cast for Konstantinos Karamanlis. [3] In the 1993 election , he was elected a member of parliament.
Ioannis Alevras died on April 6, 1995 in the intensive care unit of the “Health” hospital due to bronchopneumonia.
