Description
The temple was built in 1857 by King Rama IV (Mongkut) , as a place of worship near the Srapratum Palace. The temple was dedicated to Queen Theprisintra. [one]
At the time of construction, there were rice fields in this place and it was possible to get to it only by canal. Currently, the temple has been renovated and is a quiet corner in the city center, with green spaces and a pond. [one]
The temple is the third class of “royal temples”, the full name of the temple is Wat Pathum Vanaram Ratsha Wiharn (วัด ปทุม วนาราม ราชวรวิหาร).
All temple buildings are parallel to the street and are separated from it by a wall. In the eastern part of the temple is a small slaughter . Behind him is a large white chedi and then a large viharn [2] . The main attraction of the monastery is the cremation structure of Phra Merumas, which was restored after the funeral rite of Princess Mother Sinakharintra , the mother of two kings of Thailand. After the cremation of her body in Sanamluang Square in March 1996, a solemn procession moved her ashes here. The crematorium is a rare example of ancient Thai craftsmanship adorned with traditional Thai ornamental details, decorative stencils and varnished sculptures. It symbolizes the sacred mountain of Meru . [1] [3]
In the temple in various buildings, the ashes of members of the royal family are kept under the auspices of Prince Mahidol Adulyadej .
