Biography

Graduated in Kosice , and then in Vienna . Having become a doctor of philosophy and theology , O. Krynitsky moved to Lviv and took the post of professor of biblical studies and oriental languages at the University. Jan-Casimir in Lviv (since 1819).

Three times served as rector of the Lviv University.

He was a krylošanin of Peremyshlsky chapter .

Outreach

He took an active part in the educational life of the region. The author of a number of scientific works, published books that had educational and educational significance for the Ukrainian-Galicians. From his books, the grammar “The Glory of Ruthen ” ”, published in Budin in 1830 at the expense of Professor Dmitry Luchkaya, should be singled out. The authors of the first Western Ukrainian almanac“ The Mermaid of the Dniester ”referring to his book as“ The Most Important Integrated Case ”.

During the revolution of 1848-1849 in Galicia, he was a member of the People’s Committee (Central National Council) and a member of the Polish parliamentary committee with a program of the national movement of Galicia, designed as an address to Emperor Franz Joseph I. Among the requirements of this program were the abolition of corvée and the elimination of serfdom, the autonomy of Galicia and the introduction of the Polish language in schools and state administration, the removal of foreign officials, the proclamation of democratic freedoms, the introduction of equality of citizens before the law and the reorganization of the provincial Sejm. He took part in the preparation and the second petition to the emperor of May 6, 1848. [1]

Doctor father Onufry Krynitsky is one of the first Ukrainian chaplains . In 1849, he carried out spiritual guardianship of an armed formation, the so-called “ battalion of Russian mountain shooters, ” created in March of the same year to defend the southern borders of Galicia from attacks by Hungarian rebels L. Kossuth [2] .
