Penley NPP is equipped with two PWR reactors . For cooling water from the English Channel is used [2] .
In January 2009, the French government announced that an additional third-generation reactor, EPR, would be installed at the Penley nuclear power plant. The start of construction was announced in 2012 and the year of launch in 2017. However, the events at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant in Japan called into question the further development of France’s nuclear energy and the project for building a third reactor at the Penley nuclear power plant was postponed indefinitely. Nevertheless, programs to promote the idea of building a third reactor continue to be carried out among the local population [3] .
