Biography
Andrei Bolotov was born on August 12, 1919 in the village of Kolovo (now the Soviet District of Altai Krai ) into a peasant family. He received an incomplete secondary education, worked on a collective farm , then as secretary of the village council in Kolovo. In 1938 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army by the Gryaznukhinsky District Military Commissariat , served as a Red Army soldier , zavsklad, cadet of a regimental school, and an assistant platoon commander. Since 1942 - on the fronts of World War II. Participated in battles on the Western , Central , Belorussian fronts. In 1943, Bolotov graduated from training courses for the command staff of the Western Front, after which he fought on the Central Front as deputy commander and commander of a rifle company. Participated in the Oryol , Chernihiv-Pripyat operations . By October 1943, Senior Lieutenant Andrei Bolotov commanded a company of the 467th Infantry Regiment of the 81st Infantry Division of the 61st Army of the Central Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
October 1, 1943, despite the enemy’s fire, Bolotov, together with the entrusted company, crossed the Dnieper with improvised means. The company managed to create a bridgehead on the western bank of the river, which facilitated the successful crossing of the entire regiment , repelled many enemy counterattacks and liberated the village of Glushets, Loyovsky district, Gomel region, Belorussian SSR [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for “courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and in fights on the bridgehead,” Senior Lieutenant Andrei Bolotov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (number 2748) [1] .
During the battles in the Gomel region, Bolotov was seriously injured and was sent to the hospital. After recovery, he served as an inspector of the department of universal military training of the Altai Territory and Novosibirsk Regional Military Commissariats. In 1946, with the rank of major , he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Moscow . In 1949, Bolotov graduated from the Higher School of the Trade Union Movement, in 1952 - from the Higher Diplomatic School of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs , worked at the USSR Embassy in Czechoslovakia .
He died on November 4, 1988, was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals. Honorary citizen of the village of Kolovo [1] .
Daughter - theater and film actress Zhanna Bolotova (born 1941), wife of Nikolai Gubenko .
