Biography
Roger Voisin moved from France to the USA as a child with his father, René Voisin , who was invited to the Boston Symphony Orchestra by Sergei Kusevitsky . His teachers were his father, as well as two other French trumpeters of the Boston Orchestra - Marcel Lafoss and Georges Mazhe. In 1935, the seventeen-year-old Roger Voisin himself began to play in the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and in 1950 he became a soloist of this orchestra. In 1973, he left this orchestra, having worked there for 38 years. At various times, Roger Voisin taught at the Tanglewood Music Center , the New England Conservatory and Boston University . Many of his students have become renowned performers and educators, playing in orchestras and ensembles in the United States and Canada and teaching at leading music universities in North America.
He became the first performer of a number of works for trumpet by a number of modern composers, including Alan Hovaness and Leroy Anderson . However, the most famous of the compositions first performed by Voisin is the sonata for trumpet and piano by Paul Hindemith , performed by him together with the author who played the piano.
