Simien ( born Simien Mountains National Park ) is a national park in Ethiopia , in the Amhara region [1] .

The park was founded in 1969 on an area of 22,500 hectares to protect the unique nature of the Symen mountains in the north of the Ethiopian Highlands . On the territory of the park is Mount Ras Dashen - the highest peak of Ethiopia. The prevailing types of landscape : mountain deserts , semi-deserts , savannahs , as well as Afro-Alpine vegetation with tree-like heather .
The Nubian mountain goat , Ethiopian jackal , leopard , serval and various birds of prey live in the national park.
It was under threat from 1996 to 2017 due to a drop in the number of protected species ( Ethiopian jackal , Abyssinian mountain goat , Gelada monkey).
