History
The decision to build the plant was taken by Decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR of December 31, 1966 No. 50-15 in connection with the needs of the rocket and space industry in high-precision navigation instruments.
Construction of the plant began in 1970 on the outskirts of the Leninsky district of Saratov and continued until 1973 .
After the enterprise reached full capacity, the volume of processed beryllium was about 30 tons per year.
The beginning of the 1990s became problematic for the enterprise as well as for the entire economy. So, the decline in production in 1990 alone amounted to about 90%.
In 2001, the enterprise was separated from the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Housing” “Rosaviakosmos” into a separate legal entity subordinate to the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Atomic Energy . From this moment, the enterprise concentrated on meeting the needs of the nuclear industry enterprises, after which the restoration of production began [1] . In particular, over several years, the volume of production increased 10 times.
The enterprise is planned to be merged with FSUE Mayak [2] .
Enterprise Today
Today, Bazalt manufactures precision mechanical products from beryllium, vacuum-tight beryllium products, ingots of metallic beryllium and copper-beryllium ligature.
The enterprise belongs to hazard class 1, in connection with which a sanitary protection zone of 500 m has been set around it [3] .
