History

The creation of the Museum of Archeology is connected with the work of several generations of Kazakhstani scientists, starting from the 20s of the XX century, and is due to the development of Kazakhstan's archaeological science. Many years of research conducted by Kazakhstani scientists in all regions of the country allowed us to collect rich and often unique material that perfectly illustrates the ancient and medieval history of Kazakhstan. In 1973, on the personal initiative of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan D.A. Kunaev , the Museum of Archeology was opened. [1] Initially, the museum was located at 44 Lenin Ave. (now Dostyk Ave. ), 44. [2]

The museum was created by prominent Kazakh scientists A. Kh. Margulan , A. N. Nusupbekov , K. A. Akishev, H. A. Alpysbaev, M. K. Kadyrbaev, A. G. Maximova. It was created not only as an object of storage of accumulated materials, but also as the basis for their constant scientific study. Within the walls of the museum, one of the most significant finds in the history of Kazakhstan archeology, the “ Golden Man ” from the Issyk barrow, was investigated . Its first reconstruction, created on the basis of these studies by K. Akishev and V. Sadomskov, personifying the achievements of Kazakhstani science, the stages of its development. [3]

In accordance with the Order of the Committee on Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated June 1, 2010 No. 35-PR, with the aim of preserving, studying and popularizing museums and collections, wide dissemination of scientific, historical and cultural heritage and conducting research and cultural educational work, the Museum of Archeology of Kazakhstan transferred to the Gylym Ordasy Center. [four]

In 2012, the museum was reopened after restoration as part of the Kılym Ordasy complex at a new address - in the building of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan . [five]

Exposition

In 1946 A.Kh. Margulan became the organizer and leader of the Central Kazakhstan Archaeological Expedition, which opened in Kazakhstan the largest center of civilization of the Late Bronze Age Begazy-Dandybaev culture. The finds of this expedition became the main part of the exposition during the opening of the museum in 1973. [6]

Currently, the Museum of Archeology, functioning in the system of the scientific complex “Kylym Ordasy”, continues to complete the collection of funds, taking the finds of leading archaeologists from all regions of the country. Based on the existing and newly acquired material, a new scientific exposition has been created within the walls of the complex, covering all periods of the ancient history of Kazakhstan from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The exhibition presents unique materials of global significance from excavations of burial grounds of the Bronze Age; collection related to the era of Saks and Usuns, finds from ceramics, glass and coins from the excavations of the medieval cities of Otrar , Taraz , Turkestan , Talgar .
