History

This settlement was first mentioned in 1071 under the name Lohes. Over the centuries, it changed many times, until in 1791 it was not officially fixed as Los (Loos). He was often confused with Los le Lille , now a suburb of Lille, and in 1937, Goel was added to the name of the city by the name of the region.

The first mention of the 11th-century Elk is related to the construction of Anshen Abbey, but the name of the main Laus church in honor of St. Vedast, who lived in the 6th century, suggests that this place was settled much earlier. In the Middle Ages, Los was a large village with a population of up to 800 people.

Since the 50s of the XIX century, new horizons have opened up in Los - large reserves of coal were discovered in the region, and the city became one of the centers for coal mining, as a result of which its population began to grow rapidly. The prosperity of the city was disrupted by World War I. As a result of the battle of Los September 25 - October 8, 1915 the city was completely wiped off the face of the earth, not a single building has survived.

Following the closure of mining enterprises in 1986, several light industry enterprises, mainly textile, were opened in Los.
