Among the songs written by Vadim Samoilov in the framework of “Agatha Christie” are “Viva Kalman!”, “Black Moon”, “Never”, etc. At the same time, starting with the album “Decadence”, during which he had to work to take on most of the production and director functions, he began to take a lesser part in the creative process, and the role of the main composer and textwriter of the group gradually passed to his younger brother Gleb Samoilov [3] .

Community Activities

In 2006, he created and led the charity project “Hero of Our Time” , the goal of which is to help young and novice musicians.

Member of the Authors Council of the Russian Authors Society.

From 2008 to 2012, he was a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, elected from all-Russian public associations. As part of his work in the Public Chamber, he is engaged in the fight against piracy, which he considers to be theft.

On February 6, 2012, he was officially registered as a confidant of the candidate for President of the Russian Federation and the current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin [13] .

October 11, 2010 Vadim Samoilov, together with other rock musicians, took part in a meeting with President of the Russian Federation D. A. Medvedev [14] . During the meeting, V. Samoilov helped Andrei Makarevich sing the song of the Time Machine “For those at sea” [15] . Vadim Samoilov was also one of the organizers of the meeting [16] [17] . Vadim Samoilov did not invite the leader of the DDT group, Yuri Shevchuk , to the meeting, explaining that Yuri takes a “fairly teenage, non-conformist position, but at such meetings you still need to seek dialogue” [18] .

Since 2015, he has repeatedly visited with concerts the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic . In September, on the Day of the City of Lugansk, he was awarded the LNR Head medal “For Services to the Republic” of the 2nd degree “for an active life position, empathy with the fate of the LPR, high morale and patriotism, an invaluable contribution to the formation of a“ young state ”” [19] . After that, the musician was declared in Ukraine "persona non grata" and he was denied entry to this country.

In 2017, he joined the new board and council of the Russian Musical Union (RMS), which was approved at a meeting in Moscow on March 23, 2017. [20] [21]

A lawsuit against Artemy Troitsky

In March 2011, Vadim Samoilov filed a lawsuit against music critic Artemy Troitsky demanding compensation for moral damage in the amount of one million rubles [22] . The reason for the lawsuit was the phrase said by Troitsky in the film of the REN TV channel “Notes of Protest” [23] :

We have different rock musicians. There is, say, Vadim Samoilov from the disintegrated group Agatha Christie, who is just such a trained poodle under Surkov ...

With these words, Troitsky, in particular, implied that Vadim Samoilov helped Vladislav Surkov to record the “Peninsula” disc, in which he put the official’s poems to music [23] . At the time of filing the lawsuit, Vadim Samoilov was a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation and, according to the media, was on friendly terms with Surkov [24] . On May 4, 2011, the World Court of the Khamovnichesky District of Moscow began preliminary hearings of the case initiated under Article 130 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (insult) [24] . According to Artemy Troitsky, this lawsuit was part of a campaign organized by the Russian government against him [24] :

Two lawsuits - civil and criminal from a former traffic cop Khovansky over an accident on Leninsky Prospekt and a premium to bad police. And two lawsuits - again, civil and criminal - from Vadim Samoilov

The point of view of the journalist was supported by some musicians. In particular, Vasily Shumov organized a concert of solidarity with a journalist, which was held in the Moscow club "Bread" in June 2011. It was attended by Yuri Shevchuk , Oleg Nesterov , Nick Rock and Roll , the Center , Barto , Stackel, Resonating Mu , Last Chance , Monroe and Kennedy Daughter and others [25] . Later, the album-album "For Trinity" was also released.

In December 2011, the lawsuit under the criminal article “Insult” was terminated due to the decriminalization of the article itself [26] .

Fisherman's Day Incident

In 2018, at the celebration of Fisherman's Day in Murmansk, Vadim Samoilov during a concert dedicated one of the songs to those who are fighting in the Donbass and Syria, preceding its performance by political agitation. Seeing that one of the spectators turned around and began to leave the concert, Vadim took this very negatively, and began to insult him right from the scene, using profanity at the same time. This incident caused a wave of indignation among citizens and later Samoilov was forced to apologize on his page in one of the social networks [27] [28] .

Of course, I was categorically wrong that I used obscene language in a conversation at a concert. This is my cant, it’s all bad, and generally it’s not worth it to swear. Especially, of course, I want to apologize to the children. Dear children, Uncle Vadya uttered the wrong words. Such words do not need to be used, especially in a conflict situation. Once again, I apologize to all Murmansk residents and visitors to the concert and I hope this will not diminish the impression of the wonderful concert that we had. [29]
