Lhertsolit is a magmatic intrusive rock of the ultrabasic composition of the normal series from the peridotite family, composed of olivine (40-90%), ortho- and clinopyroxene (10-50% each) mixed with hornblende (up to 5%).
Varieties: plagioclase lherzolite (up to 10% plagioclase ), garnet (> 5%) garnet), garnet-spinel, spinel.
The average chemical composition according to Daly (% by weight): SiO 2 43.95; TiO 2 0.10; Al 2 O 3 4.32; Fe 2 O 3 2.20; FeO 6.34; MnO 0.19; MgO 36.81; CaO 3.57; Na 2 O 0.63; K 2 O, 0.21; H 2 O 1.08; P 2 O 5 0.10.
The name comes from the distorted name of the French River (a tributary of the Garonne) , flowing in the French Pyrenees .
