Biography

Alexey Bokanev was born in 1896 in the village of Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan Region. Received primary education, worked on the farm . In January 1942 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. By July 1944, Red Army soldier Aleksey Bokanev was a shooter of the 4th company of the 498th Infantry Regiment of the 132nd Infantry Division of the 47th Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Volyn region of the Ukrainian SSR and Poland [1] .

July 18, 1944, during the breakthrough of the German defense west of Kovel , Bokanev secretly crawled over to the enemy machine gun, which prevented the advancement of the company, and threw grenades at it, which allowed the company to break into the enemy’s trenches and clear them. During the battle for the village of Pochapy, Bokanev, stealthily approaching the Vyzhevka River, scouted the location of enemy firing points on the bank occupied by the enemy and chose the ford through which he led his company. Rota managed to capture the bridgehead on the western bank of Vyzhevka, which allowed the artillery and other Soviet units to be transported through it. On July 20, 1944, Bokanev was one of the first in his company to cross the Western Bug in the area of the Polish village of Zberezhe and open fire on the enemy [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Red Army soldier Alexei Bokanev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 6871 [1] .

After the war, Bokanev was demobilized, returned to his homeland, worked on a collective farm. He died on January 18, 1969 [1] .
