During the years of his Irkutsk governorship, he sympathized with the situation of workers in the Lena gold mines . He believed that the blame for the Lensky execution of 1912 lies with the Lenzoloto company.
The owners of Lenzolot ensured that F. A. Bantysh was transferred by the governor to Yakutsk.
In 1919 he was shot by the Cheka in Kharkov "for persecuting workers" in the framework of the Red Terror together with his son Antioch Bantysh (the latter "for evading mobilization").
