Paevällä

Paevälja ( Est. Paevälja ) is a microdistrict in the Lasnamäe district of Tallinn . Its population is only 469 people (January 1, 2014) [1] . The main streets are Narva Maantee, Smuuli tee, Mäe, Vana-Kuuli, Liikuri, Paekalda [2] . Bus routes number 12, 19, 29, 35, 44, 51, 60, 63, 65 run in the microdistrict [3] .

Paevälä is the least developed of Lasnamäe microdistricts. Celebration of St. John's Day annually takes place on Paevialja Square [4] .

History

The first houses on the territory of Paevalja began to be built on Mäe Street, which appears in the lists of city streets already in 1900 [5] .

At the beginning of the 20th century, the aviation company Aeronaut built a reinforced concrete hangar here [4] . In 1927, the Air Defense Forces built a military air base and an aircraft repair plant in Paevialja, which worked until 1940 [5] .

In Soviet times, the territory of Paevälä was part of the tenth Lasnamäe microdistrict. Paevalya was formed on the basis of its northern and northwestern parts. The microdistrict got its name ( Est. Paevälja - a flagstone village) in 1991, since at that time its area was relatively open and with lots of limestone [5] .

In 2008, new residential buildings were built on Vana-Kuuli Street [4] .

Population

According to Tallinn local government, as of January 1, 2014, the population of Paevälä was 469 people. Men among them 47%. Estonians make up 26% of the population of the microdistrict [1] .
