Japanese sturgeon [2] ( Acipenser multiscutatus ) is a species of fish of the sturgeon family that lives in the waters of Japan and the Northwest Pacific. It lives in both fresh and sea water. Some ichthyologists believe that it is a species of Amur sturgeon ( Acipenser schrenckii ).
