  • 491–478 - Tyrant Gela, then Syracuse Gelon (c. 540–478), officer in the Hippocratic army. Alliance with tyrant Akragant Feron.
  • 491/0 - Athenian archon eponym Hybridid.
  • 491 - Cleomen sailed to Aegina to punish the supporters of the Persians. Democrat began to slander Cleomenes. Cleomen entered into a conspiracy with Leotichides II. Leotichid II, under oath, accused Demarath of not being the son of Ariston. Cleomenes attracted Cobon from Delphi to his side. The Pythia confirmed that Democrat was not the son of Ariston. Democrat is deposed.
  • 491-469 - King of Sparta from the clan Euripontides Levtihid (d. C. 468).
  • 491 - Leotichid II and Cleomen sailed to Aegina, where they took 10 hostages and gave them to the Athenians. Cleomen in fear of the Spartans fled to Thessaly, and then aroused the Arcadians against Sparta. The Spartans were forced to return it. But Cleomenes went crazy and committed suicide.
