“ The Seventh Son ” ( Seventh Son ) is a fantasy film directed by Sergei Bodrov Sr. [2] based on Joseph Delaney ’s novel “ The Witcher ’s Apprentice ” - the first of the series “The Wardstone Chronicles” . Starring Ben Barnes , Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore . The world premiere in France took place on December 17, 2014, in Russia - on January 1, 2015 [3] [4] . In Russia, the film in two days of rental collected 148 million rubles [5] .

According to Jeff Bridges, who played the role of the witcher in the film, the picture has two key thoughts: “the line separating good and evil runs through us,” which is why “it is so difficult to fight evil: no one will cut off part of his own heart and soul from himself” [6] .

Story
Prologue
In the prologue, a knight named Gregory imprisoned some Evil in the underground dungeon on the mountain. Years pass, the Blood Moon and Evil come, gaining strength, breaks out of prison in the form of a dragon .
Meanwhile, the ringing of the bell informs the young student of the witcher William Bradley ( Keith Harington ) of a problem requiring the participation of his teacher Gregory ( Jeff Bridges ). He first deals with the offender in the tavern, beating him with a beer mug, and then conducts an exorcism session in the church, expelling from the girl a demon who turns out to be a powerful witch Malkin, formerly beloved Gregory ( Julianne Moore ). He tried to imprison her forever in prison. Fighters with the forces of darkness fail to kill Malkin. When Gregory wraps her in an iron cage, she drags Bradley into her and kills him. When he tries to burn her, the Supreme Witch breaks out of prison and flies into an abandoned temple in the mountains. Gregory has to look for a new student.
Seventh son
Gathering his followers, Malkin prepares to unleash his terrible anger at an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: Master Gregory.
At a deadly meeting, the old man confronts evil, which, as he always feared, would someday return. Now he has time only until the next full moon to do what it usually takes years: to educate a new student - Tom Ward ( Ben Barnes ) - to fight dark magic other than any other. The only hope of mankind is the seventh son of the seventh son [7] .

Filming
Filming began on March 19, 2012 and took place in Vancouver and Los Angeles [15] [16] .
The roles of Tom Ward were considered by Alex Pettifer , Shiloh Fernandez , Sam Claflin , Caleb Landry Jones and James Freshville [9] [17] [18] . Applicants for the role of Alice were Jennifer Lawrence , Dianna Agron , Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones [17] [18] .
Bridges insisted that he should have a bulging tooth in the film (which made him lisp so that some scenes had to be re-played), and Julianne Moore wanted to die beautiful [19] .
Music
Initially, the sound for the film was to be written by Alla Rakha Rahman and Tuomas Kantelinen [20] . However, due to the tight schedule, Rahman was forced to refuse to participate in the project [21] . As a result, in December 2013, Kantelinen was also replaced and the music for the film was written by composer Marco Beltrami , known for soundtracks for thrillers and horror films [22] .
Rental fees
The film failed at the box office, not having recouped the costs of its creation and promotion [23] .
