Creative Biography
The father of James Rowland Angell, James Burill Angell ( English James Burrill Angell , 1829 - 1916 ) for a long time held the honorary position of President of the University of Vermont ( 1866 - 1871 ) and the University of Michigan ( 1871 - 1909 ).
James Rowland Angell studied at the University of Michigan, where he received a master 's degree under the supervision of John Dewey.
He continued his psychological education at Harvard University , and then at the universities of Berlin and Halle .
In 1904, James Angell published his work “An Introductory Study of the Structure and Functions of Human Consciousness”, which was a programmatic declaration for the entire further development of functional psychology [1] .
In 1921 he was elected the 14th president of Yale University ( 1921 - 1937 ).
Elected full member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences ( 1932 ).
In 1906 , James Rowland Angell was elected the 15th (and youngest ever) president of the American Psychological Association .
One of Angell's students is the founder of behaviorism John Brodes Watson .
