History
The history of the Kharkov Puppet Museum began with a small exhibition of dolls that participated in theater performances. In 1968, the Kharkov Museum of Theater Puppets moved to a new building, which it is today. This building was designed by academician Beketov and is an architectural monument of the 20th century. The Puppet Museum was influenced by the International Union of Puppet Theaters , which recommended, whenever possible, the creation of puppet museums around the world.
Today, the entire third floor is allocated for the Kharkov Puppet Museum, which includes three exhibition halls. The museum received its first visitors on August 23, 1968. To date, exhibits have been collected at the Puppet Museums not only from Ukraine, but also from Poland, the USA, Bulgaria, Canada, Belgium, France and other countries. The museum's collection has over 11,000 exhibits. Among them are dolls, souvenirs, photographs, mockups of dolls, posters and theater programs. By the number of exhibits, the Kharkov Puppet Museum is second only to the Moscow Museum of Theater Puppets at the Puppet Theater named after S. Obraztsova.
Museum Exposition
The first hall of the Kharkov Puppet Museum presents the history of the development of puppet theater. Here are the dolls of the four Simonovich-Efimovs - Soviet puppeteers, who opened in 1918 the first puppet theater in Moscow. Among the dolls are Pioneer Nyura, the Guard from the Obraztsov Theater, dolls from the Michael Meshke Theater - the Swedish director of the puppet theater.
The second hall of the Museum contains a collection of dolls from around the world. Most of the exhibits are dolls from Poland. Dolls from America, Mongolia and other European countries are also represented.
In the third hall of the Kharkov Museum of Puppets, a collection of icons dedicated to the art of puppet theater is collected. There are no analogues of such a collection in any museums in the world. There are also many exhibits that reflect the history of the Kharkov Puppet Theater named after V.A. Afanasyev.
The museums collected gifts from the Moscow State Central Puppet Theater. S.V. Obraztsova and dolls of famous foreign masters.
In the period from 2002 to 2008, the exposition equipment was replaced at the Museums, which made the Museum more interesting and relevant to modern trends.
