He was the youngest son of Esau de Buondelmonti and his third wife, Evdokia Balsic. When his father died on February 6, 1411, his mother tried to control Ioannina on behalf of her young son, although she was not popular among the local nobility.
Upon learning that she plans to marry a Serbian aristocrat, they overthrew her with her son 20 days after their accession (February 26, 1411 ). Giorgio lived until at least 1453, and his name is mentioned in various Ragus documents.
