Emblem Description
"In the azure, sixteen golden bees : four times four."
The coat of arms can be reproduced in two equally valid versions: without a crown and with a status territorial crown of the established pattern. The version of the coat of arms with the status territorial crown is applied after the adoption by the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation of the procedure for including images of status territorial crowns in the arms of municipalities.
Symbols of the coat of arms
The emblem is a vowel, since the name of the product produced by the bee is honey, indicates the name of the city. The historical emblem of the county city Medyn, approved on March 10, 1777, is taken as the basis for the modern coat of arms of Medyn. The original description reads as follows:
"The blue shield, sown with golden bees, expressing abundance in these, in the circumferences of this city and the most named onago."
Azure (blue) in heraldry is a symbol of honor, glory, devotion, truth, beauty, virtue and a clear sky.
Gold is a symbol of wealth, greatness, strength, intelligence and insight.
History of coat of arms
In 1776, the village of Medynskoye was transformed into the county town of Medynsk, Medynskiy district, Kaluga governorship .
The coat of arms of Medyn was most highly approved on March 10 ( 21 ), 1777 by Empress Catherine II, along with other coats of arms of the cities of the Kaluga governorship (PSZ, 1777, Law No. 14596) [2] [3] [4]

In 1859 , during the period of the heraldic reform of Köhné , a draft of the new coat of arms of Medyn [5] was developed (not officially approved):
“In the azure shield there are 3 golden bees: 2 and 1. In the free part there is the coat of arms of the Kaluga province . The shield is crowned with a silver wall crown and surrounded by golden spikes, connected by the Alexander Ribbon . ”
On the basis of the coat of arms of Medyn, the coat of arms of the municipality Medynsky District of the Kaluga Region, approved by the decision of the District Assembly on February 10, 2006, was developed.
The historical coat of arms of Medyn (1777) was reconstructed by the Union of Heralds of Russia .
