About the album

After a long break from 1976 to 1978, the band reunited and released their new album in 1979, which was softer in sound than the previous releases of the group. In addition, instead of guitars , keyboards began to predominate in the melodies of the group, and Ferry's vocals were given more attention than before [6] . In total, there were 7 people in the recording, but a few years after the release of the album, information appeared that there were several. Steve Ferron, Rick Marotta and Richard T. played the piano on some tracks, and Luther Wandross participated in the recording of the album as a backing vocalist , but was not officially included in the recordings [7] .

The first single from the Manifesto album was the song "Trash", it hit the top 40 in the UK [8] . "Angel Eyes" and "Dance Away" were also released singles.

Critics praised the album. Billboard magazine observer noted that the album contains the beautiful ballad “Spin Me Round”, and also mentioned that the album is dominated by a melancholy mood , which is very well reflected in “My Little Girl” [9] . The reviewer of the Allmusic website writes that after Brian Ferry's vocals began to dominate the compositions, the rest of the participants faded into the background, and instrumental interludes were completely excluded from the songs. Instead, stylish disco rhythms appeared. The most remarkable of all the songs on the disc are “Angel Eyes” and “Dance Away” [1] . Robert Christgau noted that Manifesto is not innovative in the work of the group, but indicated that it is easy to listen to [4] . Rolling Stone directed the album 4 out of five stars [3] .

June 4, 1979 the disc received a gold certificate from the British Association of Phonogram Manufacturers [10] .
