"In a silver field with a scarlet (red) jagged border, a black rebellious bear, holding a golden ax with its left paw on the same shoulder, a blade up on the same pole".

Symbols of the coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality "Maloyaroslavets" is taken as the basis for the historical coat of arms of the city of Maloyaroslavets, approved on March 10, 1777, the original description of which reads as follows:

“The ancient city of Yaroslavl, which has a bear in its coat of arms, gives a reason to this, to prescribe the same coat of arms, however, that in this world there is a bear on a silver field and the shield is surrounded by a scarlet, jagged edge.”

The rising black bear holding the ax is the basis of the coat of arms of the city ​​of Yaroslavl . The compilers of the coat of arms for Maloyaroslavets were taken into account, but with the addition of a jagged border, which heraldly speaks of the “smallness” of the city of Yaroslavl, that is, Maloyaroslavets.

White color (silver) is a symbol of purity, wisdom, nobility, peace, and mutual cooperation.

Black color - symbolizes prudence, wisdom, modesty, honesty and eternity of being.

Red color is a symbol of courage, selflessness, heroism, fair struggle and life.

Yellow color (gold) - a symbol of strength, grandeur, intelligence, generosity.

History of coat of arms

In 1776, Maloyaroslavets was granted the status of the district city of the Maloyaroslavetsky District of the Kaluga governorship.

The coat of arms of Maloyaroslavets was approved the highest on March 10, 1777 by Empress Catherine II, along with other coats of arms of the cities of Kaluga governorship (PSZ, 1777, Law No. 14596) [2] [3]

In 1859 , during the period of the heraldic reform of Köhne , a draft of the new coat of arms of Maloyaroslavets was developed [4] (not officially approved):

“In a silver shield surrounded by a scarlet toothed edge, there is a black bear with a golden ax on his shoulder. In the free part of the coat of arms of the Kaluga province . The shield is surmounted by a silver wall crown, behind a shield laid golden hammers, connected by the Alexander Ribbon . ”

The historical coat of arms of Maloyaroslavets (1777) was reconstructed by the Union of Heralds of Russia for the official symbol of the municipal formation “The City of Maloyaroslavets” and approved by the City Council on November 9, 1999.
