Pneumatic flamethrower - a type of jet flamethrower , the principle of which is based on the throwing of the incendiary mixture due to the pressure of the gas or gas mixture (usually compressed air or nitrogen ) supplied from the cylinder (unlike high-explosive flamethrowers , in which the flame mixture is thrown due to pressure powder gases generated by the detonation of a special propellant charge ). Historically the first type of flamethrower. The pneumatic principle of action can have both knapsack and heavy , mechanized and tank flamethrowers [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] .
Compared with the later high-explosive jet flamethrower, the pneumatic flamethrower is characterized by larger dimensions , as well as significantly lower pressure in the tank at the time of the shot and, as a result, a lower initial velocity of the pushed incendiary mixture and significantly lower range ; The advantage of a pneumatic flamethrower is the possibility of finer control over the process of throwing the flame mixture (in a high-explosive flamethrower the shot consumes all the incendiary mixture in the tank). The relatively low efficiency of flamethrowers using the principle of using compressed gas pressure led to their almost universal displacement by high-explosive flamethrowers after the Second World War [3] [4] [5] .
