Lyrics
The song was written by guitarist Jerry Cantrell in memory of Andrew Wood , frontman of Mother Love Bone , who died of an overdose in 1990. A quote was printed in the booklet of the Music Bank collectible box set, in which Jerry Cantrell said:
| I thought a lot about Andrew Wood at the time. We always had a great time. We never had a really serious moment or conversation, it was just fun. Andy was a fun guy full of life, and it was really sad to lose him. I always hated people who are judged by the actions of other people. |
The name of the song, which can be literally translated as “If”, is also a homophone to the name “Wood” [4] .
