Ez-Zakazik [2] , Zakazik ( Arabic. الزقازيق ) [3] is a city in Egypt , in the eastern part of the Nile Delta , the capital of the province of Al-Sharqiyah . The city was built on a branch of the Ismaili Canal and on the Al-Moizz Canal, located northeast of Cairo (76 km by rail). Zakazik is an Egyptian center for trade in cotton and grain . Large cotton factories, offices of numerous European trading companies.

Colonel Arabi Pasha was born in Zakazik, who rebelled against British rule in 1882 . The museum, named after him, contains some interesting archaeological artifacts.
The University of Zakazik is one of the largest universities in Egypt. There is also a branch of Cairo Al-Azhar University in Zakazik.
Ancient Bubastis
The ruins of ancient Bubastis are located 3 km southeast of the city. Bubastis was the ancient capital of the 12th Nome , there were celebrations in honor of the feline goddess Bast . Bubastis is the Greek name for the ancient Egyptian Pere-Bastet. Bubastis became the capital of Egypt during the XXII and XXIII dynasties . The remains of the temples built by Osorkon II and Nectaneb II are still preserved. The catacombs in which the sacred cats were buried are located behind the temple of the Old Kingdom, the remains of which have been preserved since the time of Piopi I.
