Story
Prologue. Frontline plot of the First World War . A certain orderly sneaks through the swamp in search of the wounded ...
Russia. 1914 Recently graduated from university, Vladimir Bomgard and his classmate, Sergey Polyakov, get to their places of service. The hospital to which Bomgard ended up is maintained in order by the efforts of the previous doctor Leopold Leopoldovich who went to the front and other personnel. With the help of medical assistant Demyan Lukich, who has seen species in 30 years, Bomgard gains practical experience and gradually gets used to life in the backwoods. His colleague Polyakov is less successful, and from anguish he becomes morphine , and then he shoots at all.
Bomgard in 1917 goes to war. Probably it is we who see him in the prologue frames repeated in the film finale.
