Biography
The Hongdao family consisted of generations of military servants. In his youth, the boy developed an interest in literature, and at the age of fifteen he organized his own literary club.
At twenty-four years, in 1592, he successfully passes exams to obtain the official position, which he receives after three years. But this work soon, a year later, bored him. After that, he travels a lot and maintains contact with the philosopher Lee Zhi . His brothers are also involved in the trips, the eldest of whom was a Buddhist - Confucianist . Traveling leads to the publication of the poetry collection Zhidao Ji 志 道 集.
The poetry of the three brothers, focused on clarity and sincerity, finds followers and eventually becomes known as the Gong'an school, the core of which is the understanding that “good writing” comes from genuine emotions and personal experience. Verses need diversity, but be consistent. "Experiences enter us deeply, and what we learn from books lies on the surface."
At the time of Yuan Hongdao, writing and reciting verses was one of the favorite forms of relaxation.
In 1600, one of the brothers dies, after which Yuan moves to a small island in the lake to plunge into thought and write poetry. So another Xiaobi tangji collection is born.
Yuan Hongdao was a fan of Xu Wei , and he kept a collection of poems by a famous painter [1] .
