Biography

Football player career

Javier studied at the Guadalajara Academy since he was eight years old. In the team, he debuted on December 5, 1943 , coming on as a substitute in the match against Atlas (7: 3). In this match, Chamako came on as a substitute and scored an opponent to the seventh goal. Javier spent his entire career in the camp of “Guadalajara”, his great talent and high speed made him one of the strongest midfielders of Mexico , and many people consider Chamako as such. In 1956, he ended his playing career.

Coaching career

A few weeks after the end of his career, Javier was appointed acting head coach of Guadalajara. He successfully led the team, but ten rounds before the finish the Uruguayan specialist Donaldo Ross was invited to the club, who led Guadalajara to the first championship in history. But in 1961, Javier was appointed head coach on an ongoing basis. He created an efficient team called the “Great Team” [1] . During the leadership of the club, he collected twelve trophies, including five championship victories and one CONCACAF Champions Cup . In 1963, Chamako prepared the Mexican national team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and from 1970 to 1973, Javier led the team in the qualifying round of the World Championship 1974 , but he was expected to complete failure and dismissal from the post of national team head coach. He then left Guadalajara and coached less serious clubs for four years. From 1977 until his death, Chamako was a consultant to Guadalajara.

Personal life

Chamako - the father of the former coach and forward of "Guadalajara" Eduardo de la Torre and the uncle of the famous midfielder and coach , now the steering team of Mexico, Jose Manuel de la Torre .

Death

Javier de la Torre passed away after a serious illness on November 26, 2006 [2] . He was buried in his native city of Guadalajara, which had become Chamako.
