Biography
Dmitry Bogda was born on September 23, 1915 in the village of Valki (now Novye Petrovtsy, Vyshgorod district, Kiev region of Ukraine ) into a peasant family. After graduating from high school and accounting courses in Kiev, he worked in the village of Pirnovo as an accountant. In 1936 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, and served in the pontoon regiment. In 1937 he entered the Leningrad Military Engineering School, graduated in 1939 . He participated in the Polish campaign of the Red Army . Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. He commanded a sapper platoon , company. In 1942 he joined the CPSU (b) . He participated in the battle for the Dnieper , Korsun-Shevchenkovsky and Uman operations. By March 1944, Captain Dmitry Bogda commanded the 565th Separate Engineer Battalion of the 294th Rifle Division of the 52nd Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the crossing of a number of rivers in the spring of 1944 [1] .
During offensive battles, fighters of the battalion under the command of Captain Bogdan were able to mine 12 and restore 21 bridges over the Gorny Tikich , South Bug and Dniester rivers . On March 19 - 20, 1944 they built 2 ferries to force the Dniester in the area of the village of Mikhailovka, Yampolsky District, Vinnitsa Region . Captain Dmitry Bogdan died on March 20, 1944 during an air raid. He was buried in the village of Mikhailovka, where an obelisk and a memorial plaque were installed [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Captain Dmitry Bogdan was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Star , as well as a medal. In honor of Bogdan, a street in the village of Novye Petrovtsy was named [1] .
