Biography

Alexander Bogashev was born on August 5, 1919 in Irkutsk into a family of a railwayman. After graduating from a seven-year school in the city of Cheremkhovo and the mining industrial school, he worked as an electrician in a mine. In 1939 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army by the Cheremkhov City Military Commissariat . He served in the Far East , then in the city of Rivne Ukrainian SSR , commanded by a platoon of intelligence, had the rank of foreman. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts. He participated in battles on the South-Western Front in 1941 . Under the city of Korosten, he was seriously wounded and was evacuated to the hospital. Having recovered, he was sent to the Transcaucasian Front , where he took part in the Kerch-Feodosia operation . In May 1942 he was shell-shocked and captured. In July 1942 he fled from the German echelon, organized and led a partisan detachment operating in Ukraine behind enemy lines. In November 1943, Bogashev reunited with the Soviet units, participated in battles on the 1st Ukrainian Front . He participated in the liberation of Kiev , Zhytomyr-Berdychiv and Korsun-Shevchenkovsky operations . Subsequently, he served on the 2nd Ukrainian Front , participated in the Uman-Botoshan operation . By March 1944, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Bogashev commanded a company of machine gunners of the 529th Infantry Regiment of the 163rd Infantry Division of the 40th Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. Distinguished himself during the forcing of the Southern Bug [1] .

On March 13, 1944, Bogashev was the first in his unit to force the Southern Bug near the village of Ladyzhin in the Vinnitsa region , despite massive machine-gun , machine-gun and artillery fire. Bogashev's group crept up in German positions and blew up two firing points. After some time, reinforcements began to cross over to the captured area. Having accumulated enough strength, Bogashev was the first with his group to attack. Due to the surprise of the strike, German units suffered serious losses in manpower and equipment. Thanks to his actions, the regiment completed the combat mission ahead of schedule. Bogashev and four of his colleagues were represented by the regiment commander for the titles of Heroes of the Soviet Union [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1944, for “skillful actions and shown heroism when crossing the Southern Bug,” Senior Lieutenant Alexander Bogashev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3754 [1] .

Soon he was again shell-shocked. After the cure, Bogashev fought as part of the 232nd Infantry Division , participated in the liberation of Moldova , Romania , Hungary , Czechoslovakia , Iasi-Chisinau , Debrecen , Bratislava-Brnovo operations . He met the end of the war on the approaches to Austria , with the rank of captain and as deputy commander of a battalion . After the war he continued his service in the Soviet Army. In 1946, Bogashev graduated from advanced training courses for officers, in the same year he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Chernivtsi , worked as a director at the mill. Later he moved to the city of Biysk in the Altai Territory , worked as an electrician, mechanic, head of the rifle section of the DOSAAF city ​​committee. He died in 1984, was buried in Biysk [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
