Satya Yuga

Satya-yuga ( Sk . सत्या युग , satyā yuga IAST ), also Krita-yuga ( Sk . युग , kṛta yuga IAST - “age of purity”, “righteous age”, “golden age”) [1] is the first of four south , or epochs in the Hindu and Buddhist time cycle. The golden age of truth and purity. According to the traditional ideas of Hinduism, its duration is 1,728,000 years [1] , and the duration of human life in Satya-yuga is 100,000 years.

Attributes of Satya-Yuga

In this era, nature is characterized by generosity and abundance, humanity lives happily, without experiencing cares and daily hard work. There are no social differences, as there is no government, and human society is based on the full equality of all its members [1] .

People have qualities that are the basis of religiosity: asceticism , purity, mercy and truthfulness. In Satya-yuga, meditation is a prescribed spiritual practice. .

According to traditional notions, the duration of the Treta-yuga period following Satya -yuga is 1,296,000 years. This is followed by Dvapara-yuga (864,000 years) [1] and Kali-yuga (432,000), which is the modern era. It is believed that since more than 5,000 years have passed since the beginning of the Kali epoch, about 427,000 years remained until the beginning of the next Satya-Yuga. Satya-Yuga corresponds to the Golden Age of Greek and Roman mythology [2] .

Other ideas about the duration of the south

According to the ideas of Paramahansa Yogananda , Satya-yuga lasts 4,800 Earth years, the duration of Treta-yuga, following Satya-Yuga is 3,600 Earth years, followed by Dvapara-Yuga (2,400 years) and, finally, Kali-Yuga with a duration of 1,200 years. Then the next ascending cycle begins (from Kali-yuga to Satya-yuga, also with a total duration of 12,000 years) [3] [4] .
