Paktiya [1] ( Pashto پکتیا , Dari پکتیا Paktyā ) is a province in the east of Afghanistan , bordering Pakistan . The area is 6 432 km². Population - 499,200 people. (2009) [2] .

History
During the years of the Afghan war (1979–1989) , the 56th Guards Separate Air Assault Brigade deployed in the province of Paktia and the influential field commander Jalaluddin Haqqani acted.
