Nangarhar ( Pushto ننررهار , Dari ننگرهار Nangarhār ) is a province in the east of Afghanistan near the Pakistan border. The administrative center is the city of Jalalabad .

In the north it borders with the province of Kunar .

History
In antiquity, one of the centers of Buddhism. In the city of Silo (now Hada, just south of Jalalabad), the monastery kept usnina Buddha for the worship of which the famous monk-traveler Fasyan arrived in the country. In the capital of this kingdom there was a stupa where one of the Buddha’s teeth was kept. The city was surrounded by vihars, where other relics were kept.
During the Afghan war (1979–1989) , the 66th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade was stationed in Nangarhar Province and the influential field commander Yunus Khales acted.
Here was located the Tora-Bora fortified area, where Osama bin Laden was hiding in 2001 [1] .
