Biography
Football career
Chepo, a pupil of Guadalajara , was a key player in all of his clubs. With his native team, Jose won the championship in 1986. He then spent one good season at Real Oviedo in Spain , having played 32 matches and scored eight goals . Chepo also played in Puebla , Cruz Azule , WANL Tigres and Necaxa , but, of course, Guadalajara was the peak of his career. Jose was called to the Mexican national team , but never played in the world championships.
Coaching career
After his career, he began to train Guadalajara . Chepo led the team to the club’s eleventh championship, becoming the youngest coach of the decade to win the Mexican championship. In mid-2008, Jose became the head coach of Toluca , having won the championship twice in the time spent in this club.
On October 18, 2010, it was announced that Chepo would become the helmsman of Mexico at the end of the national championship [2] . De la Torre made his debut as head coach of the Mexican national team on February 9, 2011 in a friendly match with the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. His team won 2-0 [3] . At his first tournament as head coach, the CONCACAF 2011 Golden Cup , his team won all the matches, defeating the US team in the final with a score of 4-2 [4] . The first defeat to his team caused the Brazilian team . It was a friendly match, and de la Torre wards lost 2-1 [5] . After playing with the Serbian national team, the statistics of the coach are as follows: 16 matches, 11 wins, 4 draws and one defeat.
Personal life
José Manuel's cousin is another famous football player and coach Eduardo de la Torre (born 1962). Together they played for Guadalajara in the 1980s . Unlike José, Eduardo (nicknamed Yayo ) spent almost his entire career as a player in Guadalajara (1982-1993), with the exception of one season in Queretaro . In 2003, Eduardo also led Guadalajara as head coach. Since 2011, Eduardo de la Torre has been Chepo's assistant to the Mexican national team.
Jose Manuel is the nephew of Javier de la Torre (1923-2006), the father of Eduardo. Javier de la Torre played for Guadalajara from 1943 to 1956 and won three Mexican championships with the team. Javier achieved outstanding results as a coach. With Guadalajara, he won 5 championships of Mexico (1961, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1970), 2 Cup of Mexico (1963, 1970), 4 Super Cup of Mexico (1961, 1964, 1965, 1970), CONCACAF Champions Cup (1962).
