basic information
Type ofMultifunctional radar
A country USA
ManufacturerRaytheon
Statusplanned
Options
Frequency rangeX
Max. range> 370 km
Antenna dimensions2.72 × 2.08 m [1]

Developed for placement on promising ships projects CV (X), CG (X), DD (X). Together with Lockheed's VSR radar, it is integrated into a dual-band DBR radar system designed for Zamvolt type destroyers and Gerald Ford type aircraft carriers [2] .

Provides a three-dimensional review, tracking of targets in the scanning process (TWS), target recognition, target designation of weapon systems, weapon control, autopilot programming of anti-aircraft missiles, target illumination for SM-2 and ESSM semi-active homing heads. In addition, it allows the detection of submarine periscopes, floating mines and other small objects, used as navigation radar. It can carry out the review and maintenance of targets in the passive mode [1] , carry out counter-battery functions [2] .

It has three flat active solid-state phased arrays located in azimuth at an angle of about 120 °, which together cover the entire range of azimuths from 0 to 360 ° [2] .

When installed on advanced ships, the United States Navy will replace the following radars:

The AN / SPY-3 is a further development of the AN / SPY-1 and AN / SPY-2 multifunction radars. The first is the main radar of the Aegis IIC , the second has enhanced functionality for use in missile defense systems .

The system is widely used commercially available components, which reduces the cost and ease of maintenance.

The weight of the antenna is 2500 kg, the weight of the below deck equipment is 20 400 kg [1] .

History

The prototype development contract was signed with Raytheon in June 1999. In 2003, the radar engineering model was installed at the Wallops Island ground test station, pcs. Virginia . In 2005, ground tests were successfully completed, and a radar for further ship tests was installed on a trial ship - the former destroyer DD-964 “Paul Foster” of the “Spryens” type [3] .

Trials continued until 2006 [4] .
