Petersburg newspaper

The Petersburg Newspaper (since the renaming of St. Petersburg in 1914 to Petrograd has consistently appeared under the names Petrograd Newspaper , Petrograd Life , New Petrograd Newspaper ) is a daily political and literary newspaper belonging to the so-called "small press" "(1867-1918). It was founded in 1867 by Ilya Alexandrovich Arsenyev .

At first it was not widespread, but since 1871, when it was bought by S. N. Khudekov , it acquired an extensive readership. Since 1871, the newspaper was allowed a political department. In the period 1879–1881, the editor of the newspaper was I. A. Batalin, in 1881–1887 - P. A. Monteverde , in 1887–1893 - A. K. Germonius ; since 1893, it has been edited by N. S. Khudekov and P. F. Levdik (temporarily). Since 1895, the magazine Our Time was attached to the Petersburg Newspaper for free. Among the newspaper’s employees, they enjoyed the attention of the public: did publicists — S. N. Khudekov, I. A. Batalin ( Osa ), A. A. Dyakov ( | Junius 2 )? P. A. Monteverde ( Amikus ), A. R. Kugel ( Homo novus ), fiction writers - N. S. Leskov , S. N. Terpigorev ( Atava ), V. G. Avseenko , I. I. Yasinsky ; comedians - D.P. Lomachevsky and especially N.A. Leikin ; comedian poets - D. D. Minaev ( Common friend and Major Bourbonov ), G. N. Zhulev ( Sorrowful poet and Debutant ), N. K. Nikiforov ( Borimir ) and others; theater and music critics - A. A. Plescheev and V. S. Baskin .

In 1867-1871, the newspaper was published 3 times a week, since 1871 - four times, since 1878 - five times, since 1882 it began to be published daily.

In 1873 and 1877, the newspaper was temporarily suspended for censorship reasons.

Since the renaming of St. Petersburg in Petrograd in 1914, the newspaper has been consistently published under the names Petrogradskaya Gazeta, Petrogradskaya Zhizn, and Novaya Petrogradskaya Gazeta [2] .

Since March 1917, the newspaper supported the Provisional Government and for the war “to the end”; waged a fierce struggle with the Bolsheviks and proved the need for a counter-revolutionary dictatorship. Closed on November 22, 1917 [3] .
