Protagonists

Domo-kun, the main character, hatched from an egg, a brown and fluffy monster, with a large grinning mouth, which is always open. His favorite food is Japanese-style meat and stewed potatoes that cannot stand apples (due to genetic intolerance). According to the creators, Domo-kun loves television, as well as the musical groups Guitar Wolf and MAX . Domo-kun communicates, making low sounds, which often sound like his name, but other characters understand him perfectly. Nervous or upset, Domo-kun often sweats and gas .

Domo-kun lives in an underground cave with a wise old rabbit named Usadziy ( Japanese う さ じ い , English Mr. Usaji , a combination of two words - usagi (rabbit), and jiy (grandfather)). Usadziy likes to watch TV and drink strong green tea. Usaji's favorite food is carrots, less - "something that doesn't make sense."

The cave also has a family of two bats, a mother named Maya (し の ぶ) and her baby Mario (も り お). Maya suffers from alcoholism. Her favorite food is seasonal, and the less beloved is alcohol. Mario's favorite food is Japanese tomato noodles, or less shiitake mushrooms.

Another main character is Tashanna (た ー ち ゃ ん). This is a 17 year old ferret girl who wants to be a stylist or model in Tokyo. She constantly uses digital devices (TVs, mobile phones, cameras). Tashanna is very fond of bidding at auctions, but constantly surrenders at the end. Her favorite food is apricots, and mint cakes. Her less favorite food is sea urchins.

The bear boy (く ま の こ) is a Himalayan bear, the only close friend for Domo-kun. He and the Fox Boy love to play baseball.

Hii (Flower No. 1, 花 一Hanaichi ) and Hou (Flower No. 2, 花 二Hanaji ) are twin elves from the flower. Domo-kun is the only one who saw them.

The Fox Trio contains Esther (エ ス コ), Fox Brother (あ に き ちAniki-chi ) and Boy Fox (コ ン ジ ロ ー). Esther, the youngest, loves to publish "crocodile tears," build schemes and cause chaos. The fox brother, the oldest, always takes care of his younger brothers and sisters, and does not really like when Esther and the Boy Fox are called short-legged (短 足Tansoku ). The fox boy is quiet, likes to talk with the Bear Boy and Domo-kun and prefers to read.

The hungry bear (は ら ぺ こ ぐ ま Harapekogum), a large and strong bear, always feels very hungry to use its strength.

The ghost (ヒ ュ ~ た ろ う) accidentally appears and disappears. Likes to joke about Domo-kun and his friends.

Name Meaning

Domo-kun acquired his name in the second episode of the series, when Usadziy turned on the TV for him, and the screen announcer said the phrase “Do: mo connective” ( ど う も こ ん に ち は , “Good afternoon”), which can also be interpreted as a play on words “ Good afternoon, Domo. ” “Do: mo” is a polite word often used in Japan that gives a more formal connotation, for example, “do: mo arigato” - “thank you very much”. And “kun” is a suffix used in relation to younger friends or acquaintances and translated as “comrade”, “friend”. Thus, the literal Russian translation of the name does not carry a meaning and can only be interpreted as a proper name, that is, simply “Domo”. Currently, in many countries of the world, Domo-kun is a symbol of Japanese automotive culture or JDM.
