History
The name of the city over the centuries from Bulga (1135) to the present Bully-le-Min (1925) has changed thirteen times. In the VI century, it became owned by the bishops of Cambrai . From 862 to 1191, Bully, like the whole territory of Artois , belonged to the Counts of Flanders , until it came under French control. The city was part of France until 1384, until it moved to Burgundy . For a short period of 1477-1492, the city returned to France, until it was annexed to Spanish possessions. Bully was returned to France under the terms of the Iberian Peace of 1659.
Located in the very center of the region disputed by the neighboring powers, Bully repeatedly became a victim of military conflicts. So, in 1537, it was burned by the troops of Louis XII , the same thing was repeated during the military campaign of 1556-1557. By this time, Bully was so ruined that the French did not even tax the surviving residents of the city. In 1709-1712, during the War of the Spanish Succession , armies of the belligerents passed through the city several times, exposing it to plunder. Also in 1796, half of the city burned out after a severe fire.
Since the second half of the XIX century, the city has become an important center for coal mining, which is reflected in the prefix "le-Min" in its name.
