Christopher (Chris) F. Foss (born Christopher “Chris” F. Foss , born March 16, 1946 Guernsey ) is a modern English artist and illustrator, who creates his works primarily on science-fiction topics.
Life and creativity
K. Foss already in his youth identified as a future artist. Interrupting his studies as an architect at the University of Cambridge, since 1970 he has been creating title pages and covers for literary works. His favorites were futuristic, technological motifs of science fiction works. In 1972, psychologist A. Comfort published a popular work in the field of sexual relations, The Joy of Sex , the author of the illustrations for which was C. Foss. As a basis for them, the artist uses the photographs taken by him, taken in his London workshop.
In 1973, C. Foss received an order from the London publishing house Futura Publications Limited to create images for the Perry-Rhodan book series. And in 1977, he participated in the design for the planet Krypton when filming the movie Superman . In April of the same year, K. Foss created the artwork for the envelope of the album Clear Air Turbulence of the British band Ian Gillan Band . In 1979, at the request of director Dan O`Bannon , C. Foss participated in the artistic development of the then- stranger movie Alien .
In 1979, the artist’s works on sci-fi themes were released in an art album entitled 21st Century Foss , and in 1980 this edition was published in booklet form in Germany. In 1990, his book Diary of a Spaceperson ( ISBN 1-85028-049-5 ) was published. The images of spaceships developed by K. Foss are now actively used since 1999 in computer games Homeworld . Foss also works in the genre of Horror- painting, creates images of military equipment - aircraft and tanks.
Currently, the artist lives and works on the island of Guernsey.
