History

Kami Helen and Jimm Thomas began with performances in cafes and on open stages, playing independently composed music. After several songs were written, they found other musicians - drummer Steve McManus and bassist Atto Atti, with whom they founded the band Darling Violetta. The name of the group is taken from the greeting used by White Lugosi in letters to his beloved Violetta Naperska. For lack of a second guitarist, cellist Jerry Sutek was also taken into the group. [2] [3]

In February 1998, the band's debut album, Bath Water Flowers , was released, first distributed by the musicians on their own, and then by California-based label Opaline Records . Soon the American writer and director Joss Whedon , who met them at a nightclub, drew attention to the group. Impressed by their music, he invited the group to perform two songs in one of the episodes of the television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” ( Cure and Blue Sun ). For the television series Angel, an offshoot of the Buffy series that was shot between October 1999 and May 2004, Darling Violetta wrote the title track. The popularity of this series was significantly reflected in the future and the fame of the group. To this were added the soundtracks to various films, for example, “ Burn, Hollywood, Burn ”. [2] [3]

In February 2000, the band released The Kill You mini-album . One of the songs on this album, I Want to Kill You , was used in the computer game Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption , the first part of a series of vampire games. In the second part - the computer game " Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines " - the song A Smaller God from the album Parlour released in February 2003 was used . [2]

Despite several live performances, the group has not been active since. In 2009, it was announced the recording of the next album.

Style, influence

Despite the fact that Darling Violetta is not in the strict sense of the word a Gothic group, and in general her work fits into the mainstream, she gained some popularity among representatives of the Gothic subculture [4] .
